Traveling School in New York!

March 2014

Traveling School visits the great Ahmed Abdullah and his Sun Ra ensemble at the New School in New York. Ahmed is a master music communicator and his vast experience as an improvisor shines through to his students who are studying the music and life of Sun Ra.

Lilli and Jimmy collaborated with guitarist/composer, Sten Hosfalt on his microtonal project "Dimensional States" which we hope to bring to Europe next fall. This fantastic project included 13 musicians and 2 dancers from the cutting edge of the NY experimental scene including Traveling School saxophonist Noah Preminger (Sa Pobla 2013)  and  bassist Matt Garrison (Genoa 2004). The performance took place March 13 at the Shapeshifter lab in Brooklyn.

Last week we finally, after many years got to meet  trumpeter Michael Irwin, the son of our beloved late friend, the great Dennis Irwin. Dennis worked with Traveling School from 2003 to 2006. We learned many things from Dennis who had an extraordinary gift and ability to transmit love through music. We plan to collaborate in the future with Michael and keep the lineage of our connection to Dennis alive.
